GOP Must Say No To A Detroit Bailout

I just wanted to say that the Scottish Right blog is officially and adamantly opposed to any bailout of Detroit automakers that doesn't involve a managed bankruptcy.  This is a gut-check vote for Republican legislators who supposedly believe in free markets.  It would be beyond disappointing for GOP "leaders" to cave into the Democrats and UAW on such a significant issue. Furthermore, any GOP votes in support of a multi-billion dollar loan to "buy time" should be viewed as nothing other than an inexcusable lack of principle.

Now there's bailout money for transit agencies in the House version of the bill?

Democratic Sen. Max Baucus of Montana announced he was against the measure because of a provision to bail out transit agencies. The bus and rail systems could be on the hook for billions of dollars in payments because exotic deals they entered into with investors — which have since been declared unlawful tax shelters — have gone sour.

This is a typical government spending orgy and an outrage!  Good to see that the Senate Republicans are holding firm...for now anyway.

    Here's an even bigger outrage:

At the White House, Deputy Chief of Staff Joel Kaplan told reporters at a late-morning briefing that the administration had yet to read the fine print of its "conceptual agreement" with congressional Democrats.

However, he indicated clear support, saying Bush would personally lobby Republicans.

Nice attention to detail.  Oh well, they were going to support it anyway!

    Palin Night

Wow...Governor Huckabee is really getting in some shots at Barack Obama and the Democrats.  The line about Sarah Palin getting more votes while running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska then Joe Biden did in his run for the presidency was classic!  I wasn't a Huckabee supporter, but I have to applaud his ability to deliver a message.  He's really warming them up.

Giuliani is having a good time openly mocking Obama's resume.  He started laughing when he mentioned that Obama was a community organizer.  The entire convention hall is in an uproar laughing at Obama.

WOW!  Sarah Palin owned that hall.  The speech, the delivery, the family, the looks.  America will embrace her and the Democrats may well begin feeling some degree of panic.  Great overall night for the GOP.

GOP Benefits With Degree in Palintology

Sarah Palin was an inspired choice and signifies that the McCain campaign is going to steal away the mantle of "change and reform" from Obama.  The MSM is a little behind the curve on this, and still wondering why McCain would make a choice that potentially undermines his experience argument.  They'll catch on soon enough....

Governor Palin brings several things to the GOP ticket.  First and foremost, she brings a fresh face untainted by the Washington beltway establishment.  Secondly, she is a rock-ribbed conservative.  Thirdly, she has the credentials of a reformer who took on the sacred cows and corruption of the male-dominated GOP establishment in Alaska.  Finally, she will almost certainly appeal to a large enough segment of the female Clinton voters who believe that Hillary was snubbed by Obama.  Palin won't bring over the hard-core liberal women, but she will cause the working class women who live in places like Ohio and Pennsylvania to take a serious look at the GOP ticket.

    Ted Stevens Indicted

Today's indictment of Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska on charges of public corruption isn't going to help the GOP restore it's brand.
