Desperate McCain Resorts To Blatant Lie
Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 04:01PM Seeing his chance for the nomination rapidly collapsing, John McCain is going all out to try and derail Mitt Romney, even if it means telling an outright, terrible untruth:
John McCain accused Mitt Romney of wanting to withdraw troops from Iraq, drawing immediate protest from his Republican presidential rival who said: "That's simply wrong and it's dishonest, and he should apologize."
Mitt Romney is reluctant to use the word lie. I'm not. McCain's assertion is simply untrue and cannot possibly be proven accurate. I tend to agree with Hugh Hewitt's thoughts:
The McCain charge is so wildly untrue that it will cause even McCain supporters to blanch. This is the old McCain of 2000, lashing out when the tide turns against him. Inventing a wholly new line of attack that is instantly understood to be false is a sign of a campaign in disarray.
McCain's gambit is to try to change the debate from the economy to national security in the days immediately preceding the Republican primary. It won't work and it's regrettable that an otherwise honorable man would tell an outright fib in his attempt to stave off an all but certain defeat. I'm embarrased for McCain.
Hugh has it right when he refers to McCain in the following manner: Great American, lousy Senator, terrible Republican.

If Romney manages to win in spite of all this, McCain will have lost his "inevitable" status, and even though he may remain the MSM's darling (even though they won't be voting for him) the nomination will be Romney's to win or lose.
Romney has shown himself willing to say whatever he thinks the Party ideologues want him to say.
Remember what he said about outdoing Kennedy on Gay Rights?? Pro-Abortion and some WANT to believe he has integrity.
