They Really Don't Support The Troops
Friday, August 31, 2007 at 10:41AM Leftwing director and relic of the 1960s Brian De Palma has unveiled a new film whose sole purpose, admitted by the director, is to chip away at public support for the Iraq War. How is he going to do it? By trying to create an image of widespread U.S. military atrocities based upon the isolated incidents of a few bad actors. In other words, he's going to slander the troops:
De Palma, 66, whose "Casualties of War" in 1989 told a similar tale of abuse by American soldiers in Vietnam, makes no secret of the goal he is hoping to achieve with the film's images, all based on real material he found on the Internet.
"The movie is an attempt to bring the reality of what is happening in Iraq to the American people," he told reporters after a press screening.
"The pictures are what will stop the war. One only hopes that these images will get the public incensed enough to motivate their Congressmen to vote against this war," he said.
Perhaps the director would be better served by making a film about the brutality of the Hussein regime. I have another idea. If our troops pulled out and left the Iraqis to fend for themselves amidst brutal sectarian violence, De Palma could film the ensuing mass murders and genocide. Ah, but at least he could congratulate himself on "ending the atrocities caused by U.S. troops" as the Iraqis butcher one another. What a self-righteous, short-sighted jerk.
