    Obama, Tancredo Form Exploratory Committees

Illinois Democrat Senator Barack Obama and Colorado Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo announced the formation of presidential exploratory committees today.  Obama's announcement was somewhat expected.

I believe Obama's greatest challenge will be to keep alive the "myth" of a politician who transcends politics while finally being forced into the uncomfortable position of confronting his record and making policy pronouncements.  His best hope is to strike early in the primary process before full disclosure arrives.  Hillary Clinton will do all she can to make that a difficult proposition.

Tancredo has been discussing a presidential bid for some time, but single issue, unknown politicians trying to vault to the presidency from the House of Represenatives don't usually fair too well.  I expect Tancredo to drop from the race early for several reasons, not least of which because he won't have any money.

White-flag-waving American leaders proposing retreating in defeat from Iraq are sending this message to the Kurdistan, Iraqi people: “Go to ___!

Is that the message we are going to send? Will we leave the Kurds to be slaughtered, again?

After the US leaves Iraq --- whenever the US leaves Iraq --- the deluge.

That will be George Bush's legacy.
