There's enough blame to go around for the loss of Congress by the Republicans. The general perception that the war in Iraq was being mismanaged can be laid at the feet of the Bush Administration. The President has two years to begin the process of turning the war around. If he doesn't, I expect the headwinds into which the Republican Party had to sail this year will continue to be a factor in 2008. Even so, Congressional Republicans are not entirely blameless for the poor showing either. They, perhaps more than the President, substantially deflated the base through their profligate spending, earmarks, occasional instances of corruption and general dithering on immigration reform -- with a special shout-out to the Senate Republicans for flirting with amnesty and essentially thumbing their noses at the base. That's why I find humor in this
article in The Hill about the anger that some congressional Republicans have toward the President for not replacing Don Rumsfeld sooner. What's that line about glass houses again?
